Introducing Laurel Meadows in Sarasota Florida

From time to time, we like to introduce readers to a Sarasota Florida neighborhood or community that may be of interest to those considering moving to the Southwestern Florida . Laurel Meadows is just such a community.

Laurel Meadows, which is located conveniently just east of Interstate I-75, was originally developed beginning in 2000 and was completely sold out by the end of 2005 because it featured something a lot of families wanted, reasonably-priced homes on larger than usual lots in an attractive area, away a bit from downtown Sarasota traffic but still convenient to everything one could want. Yet, it is still not a bad commute at all to downtown and all those wonderful on Lido Key and Siesta Key.

In Laurel Meadows, three builders offered a variety of 3- and 4-bedroom homes with a Florida contemporary design with cathedral ceilings selling at that time between $200,000 and the low-$300’s. Laurel Meadows is an attractive community bordered by a large expanse of farmland to the north and a large lake and wooded preserve to the south, Laurel Meadows is surrounded by natural beauty. Palm trees line the divided entrance and homes are arranged around 5 picturesque lakes, one of which can be fished by residents only. The modest $215 quarterly homeowners association fee is another attractive feature of this community.

Today the community includes a nice mix of residents including professionals, retirees, empty-nesters, families with children and snow birders who spend only a portion of the year in residence. People walk their dogs and take strolls in the evening. Connie Belmont, an experienced Sarasota FL real estate agent says, “no one i’s nosy in Laurel Lake, but neighbors do look out for each other.” Families with children especially like the district schools serving the neighborhood, Tatum Ridge Elementary, McIntosh Middle School and Sarasota High School.

For shopping convenience, there’s a Publix grocery store within walking distance at the intersection of Iona and Bee Ridge Roads, across from Rothenbach Park. The Big Cat Habitat & Gulf Coast Sanctuary wildlife preserve and the 360+ acre Celery Fields Park & Audubon Center are just down Palmer Boulevard. Shopping and restaurants opportunities are a short drive away at Westfield Sarasota Mall, University Town Center, Walmart, Home Depot and Lowe’s. For health care, Doctor’s Hospital is right on Bee Ridge Road. For golfers, the 45-hole municipal Bobby Jones Golf Club is just minutes away and for those who prefer a private club, several private and semi-private course are also close by. All of Sarasota’s cultural venues like the Asolo Theater, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the Ringling Art Museum are only a 20 to 25 minute drive away, and the soft, crystalline sands of famous Siesta Beach are also within easy driving distance.

With its quiet streets and plentiful sunshine all year round, Laurel Meadows offers plenty of home options all reasonable price levels. But understand that people who live in Laurel Meadows seem to really like it there so homes are not always available. In the past 18 months, five homes have sold ranging in price from about $260,000 to $340,000. Just recently there were only 2 homes for sale in the entire neighborhood. If Laurel Meadows sounds like the kind of community you’d like to live in, call Connie Belmont at 941-228-9682 so she can show them to you and alert you to other Laurel Meadows homes when they become available.
